Prof. Dr. med. Christine Klein is head of the Institute of Neurogenetics and of the Movement Disorders Section at the Dept. of Neurology at the University of Lübeck.

Zusammen mit Prof. Dr. Jens Volkmann koordiniert sie das Deutsche Netzwerk zur translationalen Erforschung und Behandlung dystoner Erkrankungen.

Sie ist Projektleiterin des Projekts SP2: "Deutsches Dystonie Register: Evolution, Epidemiologie, Genetik und klinische Studien

und Co-Projektleiter des Projekts SP4: "Modellierung von Dystonie in einem endogenen humanen Zellsystem: Plattform und Charakterisierung von iPS-abgeleiteten Neuronen von Patienten mit monogenetischer isolierter Dystonie".

Christine Klein has a large scientific record (>300 peer-reviewed papers) in the field clinical and molecular genetics of dystonia and other movement disorders. The Neurogenetics Institute at the University of Lübeck is a leading research center on the genetics of dystonia.

She is head of the Neurogenetics Committee of the German Neurological Society, has served as Councilor to the Neurogenetics Section of the American Academy of Neurology, is a current member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Bachmann Strauss Dystonia and Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, and has been a member of the Dystonia Coalition (DC) from its planning phase on.

The Institute of Neurogenetics has state-of-the-art know-how with neuroepidemiology, clinical, and genetic techniques. The Institute’s biobank comprises ~10,000 samples of patients with dystonia and other movement disorders and controls including ~200 fibroblast cultures and several iPS lines of patients with monogenic forms of dystonia.

Christine Klein and her team have identified two new genes for dystonia/dyskinesia in the last years.
